Outback Way - Australia's Longest Shortcut
Congratulations to the Outback Way- Australia's Longest Shortcut - 25 years in the making.
We are very proud of the efforts of our committee member Pat Hill who's vision initiated the project 25 years ago in August 1997. Pat raised the idea and garnered support from all the Local Councils along the route. This led to a motion from the floor of the Australian Local Government Association Conference to seal the existing roads and create the Outback Way. The Outback Highway Development Council Inc (OHDC) was formed in 1998 and the group of councils has continuously supported the development through both financial and in-kind support. OHDC continuously lobby's for the upgrade and promotes the tourism of the Outback Way.
